Africa External Load Operations

With the steady increase in exploration drilling, mining, geographical survey and mapping in increasingly more remote regions of Africa, the versatility and unique capabilities of the helicopter has made it indispensable in this industry.

Operating in Africa can often be an expensive and time-consuming endeavor due to zero or limited road access and harsh terrain. In order to minimize the impact on the environment and costly road building exercises, the helicopter has become the primary vehicle to transport personnel and equipment between sites quickly and efficiently. The adaptability of the aircraft allows loads to be carried inside the cargo bay, in an under-slung cargo net or as a long-line external load depending on the size, type and weight of the equipment to be transported. Seats are easily and quickly installed or removed to convert the cargo bay to passenger carrier and vice versa. Highly experienced air and ground crews are in constant contact to ensure that each piece of equipment is pre-planned, loaded and transported in the safest and most efficient manner.

  • Cost efficient due to direct routing and speed.
  • Operations in restricted/steep terrain.
  • Minimal drilling/survey equipment downtime.
  • Easy access for staff between sites.
  • External loads up to 800kg.
  • Minimal impact on the environment.
  • General External Load Operations

There are certain operations that are ideally suited to the strength and versatility of a helicopter. Where heavy loads need to be moved in areas where terrain, obstacles or environmental factors restrict the use of trucks and cranes, the helicopter’s potential is significant. Such operations include, but are not restricted to:

    • Construction.
    • Wildlife/big game relocation.
    • Equipment into inaccessible areas.
    • Camera mounts for aerial filming.
    • Surf rescue.

    Aerial Advertising

Banner towing is becoming an increasingly popular way for companies to get their message out there. The massive impact of a large helicopter towing a 60m x 60m banner past a crowd gathered in a stadium or on a beach cannot be beaten by any other means. BAC can arrange the make-up of your banner and plan your advertising event to best effect.

    Offshore Operations

Whether it’s transporting passengers to and from ships, or taking an injured patient to safety, BAC sets the standard – for safety, customer service, modern aircraft, and efficiency. Every year we fly a number of hours on offshore, and every flight follows the most rigorous standards and procedures found anywhere. Our priority, on every single flight, is safety. Our priority, for every single customer, is efficiency.

    Game Capture

BAC Aviation specialises in a wide variety of tasks including game capture. The game capture services include herding and darting services. We have got our own game capture/cull rated pilots that have a great deal of experience with wildlife.

Our game services include using helicopters as a platform for tracking wounded animals and vaccinations of animals against the dreaded anthrax and botulism diseases. When involved with game capture it is important to keep stress to the animal minimal and this is an integral part of our game capture operations. That is why we use only experienced pilots. We offer game capture helicopter services all over the country.
